Filipino Desserts at Pinoy Tambayan: Ube Halaya to Leche Flan
Pinoy Tambayan keeps six desserts on the printed menu at Al Barsha, from a five-dirham ice cream cone to a nineteen-dirham leche flan, plus halo halo as a seventh on its own guide. Every price and dish name below comes straight off the menu, not a guess.

Pinoy Tambayan in Al Barsha, Dubai keeps six desserts on the printed menu outside of halo halo, priced from AED 5 to AED 19, and each one is a dish a Filipino household actually serves rather than a cafe invention.
Purple, white and brown: the AED 17 shelf
Ube Halaya is a thick jam made from purple yam, mashed and cooked down with condensed milk until it turns a deep violet, sweet enough to eat by the spoon rather than spread on anything. Biko Halaya pairs biko, a sticky rice cake cooked in coconut milk and brown sugar, with a scoop of that same ube jam on the side. Maja Blanca is a coconut and corn custard, set firm enough to cut into squares, milk white next to the two ube dishes on the tray. All three sit at AED 17 on the printed menu.
Leche flan, buko pandan and something cold
Leche Flan is the custard most people already know, egg and condensed milk steamed until set, then turned out of its mould with the caramel on top. At AED 19 it is the most expensive of the six. Buko Pandan sits at the lighter end: young coconut strips and pandan-flavoured gelatin cubes folded through cream, served cold, priced at AED 15. For something simpler, a single Ice Cream Cone in vanilla or strawberry costs AED 5, the cheapest item on the whole dessert list.
Halo halo is the seventh dessert on the list and the one most people ask about by name. Read the full halo halo guide for what goes into the glass and how well it survives delivery.
Ordering dessert with the rest of the meal
Any of the six travels on the same order as a main course. Send the order on WhatsApp and add a dessert line the way you would add a drink, with no separate menu to open.
An office or a family ordering dessert for a bigger group can do the same for larger numbers. For a full spread beyond thirty people, the catering price list starts at AED 49 a head and can carry a dessert course rather than leaving it as an afterthought.
Building a dessert order that survives delivery
- Leche Flan and Maja Blanca hold their shape in a container and travel the same as any main course.
- Buko Pandan is cream and ice. Order it close to eating time rather than hours ahead if delivery is involved.
- Ice cream melts fast in Dubai heat, so a cone holds up better for dine-in than for a delivery bag.
- Ube Halaya and Biko Halaya are dense enough to share off one plate between two people rather than ordering one each.
Dessert questions we get asked
What desserts does Pinoy Tambayan serve?
Six on the printed menu: Ube Halaya, Biko Halaya, Maja Blanca, Leche Flan, Buko Pandan and Ice Cream Cone, plus halo halo as a seventh, larger dessert. Prices run from AED 5 to AED 19.
What is ube halaya?
A thick jam made from purple yam, mashed and cooked with condensed milk until it turns deep violet. It is eaten by the spoon rather than spread on anything.
Is maja blanca the same as buko pandan?
No. Maja Blanca is a coconut and corn custard set firm enough to cut into squares. Buko Pandan is coconut strips and pandan gelatin cubes served cold in cream. They are priced differently too, AED 17 against AED 15.
Can I order dessert for delivery?
Yes, most of the six travel well. Ice cream and buko pandan are cold dishes, so order them close to eating time since they hold up less well in a delivery bag over a longer trip.
Can I order dessert for an office or group?
Yes, dessert can be added to any WhatsApp order the same way as a drink. Groups of thirty or more can add it to a catering order instead.
